Vs. close
- "Vs. close" compares the current perpetual-futures value with a close basis taken at the last cash-market close.
- The site first uses the oracle value at the cash-market close. If unavailable, it uses the 15-minute perpetual-futures candle ending at the close, or a candle ending up to one hour earlier if the close-time candle is missing.
- It is a different number from the 24-hour change, which compares with the value 24 hours earlier.
Vs. close: the comparison basis, formula and a dated production-data example.
Definition
"Vs. close" is a name StockTicker24 gives to its own calculation. The primary sources checked for this page contain no definition under that name.
The calculation is: (current value − close basis) ÷ close basis × 100.
The close itself is set by each exchange. The Tokyo Stock Exchange runs its afternoon session to 15:30 JST and fixes the close by a call auction at 15:30. Nasdaq sets its official close with the Closing Cross at 16:00 Eastern Time. The NYSE runs a closing auction at 16:00.
The contract issuer, trade[XYZ], states that while the external market is closed, the external price stays at that market's close. Only the oracle price moves during that time.
Crypto cards and cards inside their cash session show no vs.-close figure.
vs. close measures the move since the last cash close, using the site's own close basis.
How it appears on StockTicker24
The figure appears in the card header after the market state, for example "After hours −0.44%". Its tooltip names the basis used: "Close basis: Oracle value" or "Close basis: perpetual 15m candle". The Movers tab has a "Vs. close" face, and the Market cap tab has a vs. close column.
Worked example with production data. The site retrieved the board snapshot (/api/board-snapshot) at Oct 10, 2026, 05:01:18 UTC and the 15-minute series (/api/series?interval=15m&range=24h) at Oct 10, 2026, 05:02:15 UTC. The example below uses the second basis, the 15-minute candle that ends at the cash close. The card uses the oracle value first, so the card's figure can differ.
| Card | Cash close (UTC) | 15-minute candle close | Mid price on Oct 10 | Vs. close |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| S&P 500 | Oct 9, 20:00 | 7,808.2 | 7,820.35 | +0.16% |
| NVIDIA | Oct 9, 20:00 | 229.33 | 230.315 | +0.43% |
| Nikkei 225 | Oct 9, 06:30 | 69,147.0 | 68,900.0 | −0.36% |
S&P 500: (7,820.35 − 7,808.2) ÷ 7,808.2 × 100 = +0.1556%, shown to 2 decimals as +0.16%.
the tooltip tells you which of the two bases the card used.

Questions
Is vs. close the same as the 24-hour change?
No. The 24-hour change compares with the previous-day reference (prevDayPx), the value 24 hours earlier. Vs. close compares with the close basis at the last cash close.
Do the Gainers and Losers faces sort by vs. close?
No. They sort by change vs. the previous-day reference. The separate "Vs. close" face sorts by the move from the cash close and excludes crypto.
Is vs. close always shown?
No. During the cash session the card shows "Cash market open" without it. If neither basis is available, the figure is not shown.
