Definition
The U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission describes the funding rate as a periodic payment between the long and short sides of a perpetual-futures contract. A positive funding rate means the long side pays the short side; a negative rate reverses the direction. The rate is determined by the funding formula, including its interest component and limits, rather than by the sign of the price difference alone.
The protocol documentation ("Funding") sets the payment interval at one hour. The formula is written as an 8-hour rate, and each hour pays one eighth of it. The interest component is 0.01% per 8 hours, which is 0.00125% per hour. The cap is 4% per hour. Payments are peer-to-peer, and no fee is taken from them.
The contract issuer, trade[XYZ], announced on Dec 19, 2025 a multiplier of 0.5 applied to the formula. With that multiplier, the hourly interest component becomes 0.5 × 0.00125% = 0.000625% per hour. StockTicker24 calls this figure the Baseline.
It is not a fee charged by StockTicker24 or by the exchange.
paid every hour; 8 hours is only the basis of the formula.
How it appears on StockTicker24
The rate appears in the Funding rate column of the Market cap tab. The column's description is “Perpetual-futures funding rate per hour”. Lab is hidden during review.
| Label on screen | Calculation |
|---|---|
| Current | The hourly funding rate, in %/hr, at 4 decimal places |
| Baseline | The instrument's multiplier × the 8-hour interest rate ÷ 8, at the same 4 decimal places |
| Vs. baseline | Current as shown − Baseline as shown |
| 7d total | Sum of the payments that occurred over the last 7 days, in percent, at 2 decimal places |
| Per day (×24) | Current as shown × 24; simple, with no compounding |
The site retrieved its production board snapshot (/api/board-snapshot) at Oct 10, 2026, 05:01:18 UTC (capturedAt 05:01:10.627 UTC). The funding field is an hourly fraction; the table multiplies it by 100.
| Card | funding field | Rate (%/hr) | Shown at 4 decimals |
|---|---|---|---|
| S&P 500 | 0.00000625 | +0.000625 | +0.0006%/hr |
| NVIDIA | 0.00000625 | +0.000625 | +0.0006%/hr |
| USD/JPY | 0.0 | 0.000000 | 0.0000%/hr |
For S&P 500 and NVIDIA, the current rate equals the Baseline of 0.000625%/hr. For USD/JPY the site uses an interest rate of 0, so the Baseline is 0. A card shown as 0.0000%/hr has no direction on the surface.
The "Per day (×24)" figure is simple arithmetic on the shown value. For S&P 500: 0.0006 × 24 = 0.0144% per day, with no compounding. This is an hourly-rate extrapolation, not a realized daily total.

Price = mid price, or mark price when mid is unavailable. Difference = price − prevDayPx; change vs. 24h earlier = (price ÷ prevDayPx − 1) × 100. Funding rate (%) = hourly decimal × 100. Calculated values are rounded to six decimal places.

Calculation examples
The $10,000 calculation is an independent example in one currency, separate from the yen basis on the board and symbol pages.
Per $10,000 held (example): 7d total as shown × $10,000 ÷ 100.
The following are hypothetical arithmetic examples, separate from the API observations above. "Per day (×24)": 0.0100 × 24 = 0.24%. "Per $10,000 held (example)": 0.35 × 10,000 ÷ 100 = $35. The protocol interest calculation is 0.01% ÷ 8 = 0.00125% per hour; the stated multiplier gives 0.5 × 0.01% ÷ 8 = 0.000625% per hour.
Questions
Is the funding rate a fee charged by StockTicker24?
No. It is a transfer between holders of the two sides of the contract. StockTicker24 only displays the rate and has no trading function.
Does a positive sign mean the price will go up?
No. The sign only states the direction of payment: positive means the long side pays the short side.
Is funding paid every 8 hours?
Under the protocol documentation it is paid every hour. Eight hours is the period the formula is written for.
